I have worked with Michael Holland for the last three years. He approaches health and fitness coaching from a holistic perspective. Recently I needed total knee replacement surgery on both knees. I believe this a result of running to many half and full marathons many years ago.
Michael and I prepared for the surgery, and he worked with me after the surgeries. This focused treatment paid off, both my doctor and I have been very pleased with how rapidly the knees healed, and how I was able to increase my activity quickly. The engagement with Michael was instrumental to this quick recovery. I can highly recommend his work.
“Thank you for all of your help in making me the golfer and person I am today. I started working with Michael Holland during my junior year of high school after my dad suggested that a personal trainer could help me improve my golf game. Through his focus on a progressive approach to all around fitness training, Michael helped me not only recover from tendinitis in my left wrist, but also go from a ten handicap to a two handicap golfer and the number one player on my high school team in my senior year.
Michael helped me lose weight and gain strength by guiding me through exercises using my own body weight. Additionally, Michael helped me with the mental aspect of golf in a variety of ways, including by having me hit putts with my eyes closed and by having regular discussions on the state of my game. Thanks to Michael’s dedication and support, I now look forward to walking on to the golf team at Cornell University and living a healthier and more mindful life.”
As a fitness professional with fifteen years of experience I’ve come across many trainers and coaches throughout my career and sporting life. The one that stands out the most for me is Michael Holland. His knowledge, approachable manner, and overall professionalism exudes excellence. He has taken me to the next level in my pursuit of competing in endurance events. I was suffering from iliotibial stress syndrome and had trouble running without severe pain. Michael introduced me to deep water running, added the correct stretching program, and strength training; coupled with running workouts. With Coach Holland’s program design I recently competed in my first Half Ironman. His systematic injury free training approach has worked wonders for me physically mentally and spiritually. What separates Michael from the rest of the coaches is his caring and nurturing attitude, and belief in you as an athlete and most importantly his knowledge to keep me injury free.
I have worked with Michael and have been utilizing his Comprehensive Athletic Training program since my sophomore year of college in 2013. His holistic modalities propelled me to tap into my full potential on and off the playing field. I graduated with my Bachelors degree in exercise science. I was selected as an ALL-American QB for my NAIA college. Prior to college I battled back from injuries using eastern modalities that western medicine could not provide for me. Michael provides the mind, body, and soul with exercises that puts you in a state of harmony which transfers to an overall better performance. Coach Holland also deepened my knowledge of Qigong by teaching me practices that translated to improved athletic performance, while keeping me injury free. I continue to incorporate these practices into my daily life, and they definitely help keep me healthy and fit.
Michael’s ability to change lives is nothing short of Amazing. His gentle, yet powerful integrated approach to training and conditioning allowed me to achieve my dream of running a ½ marathon after only a few months of training. He uses his breadth of knowledge of sports physiology, nutrition and spiritual mindfulness at each session. By combining a multitude of techniques including carefully planned running regimes, pool work, and stretching sessions, he unlocked the athlete in me.
This past year I was seriously injured with a strained groin towards the end of my senior year track season. The injury rendered me incapable of competing in the 200 meters. Michael Holland was instrumental on my road to recovery – providing me with the support and guidance that I needed to heal and strengthen an injured body and spirit. Through working with him, I was able to run again, and faster than I had before. In a short span of the summer I went from walking to jogging to running without pain. Now I look forward to a bright career in collegiate athletics, running for the University of California, San Diego. This is all thanks to Michael’s dedication and support of all facets of healing, from catering to the tangibility of the body to the ethereal yet equally important temperament of the spirit. 2009 – 200m-21.86
Qigong has provided me with a mental framework with which to face the day and its unexpected events with a greater degree of calmness. I would like to share with you what has for me been a very unexpected benefit. I was a competitive swimmer for many years through high school and college. I realized recently, after one of our sessions, that the practice of Qigong has improved how I breathe when I swim the crawl. As a result of the Qigong you taught me, and the specific breathing patterns I learned in the process, I was automatically using those same breathing patterns while swimming. I am now able to swim much more easily and efficiently—and it has enabled me to swim for a significantly longer time. Many thanks!
Michael gently and respectfully helps clients attain their maximum wellness and fitness potentials by recognizing and attending to the unison of mind-body-spirit. My path towards wellness includes nutritional guidance, Qi Gong, massage, trigger point therapy, Muscle Activation Technique, and more. I’ve progressed to the point that my body happily experiences a workout that Coach Michael Holland continuously progresses on the TRX Suspension Trainer and with the use of other training modalities. From providing corrective treatment to progressing a client intelligently, I have Michael to thank. He is ever seeking to evolve his work and inspires me to pursue the art of wellness with the bar set high.
I have always loved running. I was a cross country runner in college, but I never felt that I had the potential to grow as a runner. Working with Coach Holland, I have gained a sense of awareness of correct running form and how to nourish both my mind and my body to achieve optimal results. I now realize that I have the potential to be a competitive runner. I am currently in training for the Women’s Nike Full Marathon with the goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
Michael took an injured and out of shape former competitive runner, and rehabbed, trained and coached me to my best running times in the span of 8 months. My ultimate goal was to qualify for the Olympic Trials Marathon at the Boston Marathon. To this day, I have never incurred an injury from following Coach Holland’s program design. My dietary changes, the stretches and the deep water running have been absolutely transformational in tuning and strengthening my body. In just a couple of months of working with Coach Michael Holland (and after about 10 years), I am now at my ideal weight. I feel great and with each week my knee is getting stronger. I have resumed a weekly practice of hiking the PG&E Trail at Rancho San Antonio (a rigorous 8 mile hike) without any knee pain, and I am looking forward to returning to doing triathlons with my daughter, who is 37 years my junior!
Michael’s eclectic professional and personal experience brings the synergy of the athlete and coach into a rare reality of athletic training based on respect. Our first training with Michael set up an immediate relationship of respect. He listens to Jeremy and quickly connects with him, getting to know my son, where he is now as an athlete and what brought him to this point to empower him on his journey. Michael’s detailed attention to body mechanics, at every training, has enabled my son with skills that cross over into every sport giving him greater access to show up in his natural abilities as an athlete. Michael brings the missing link in coaching and training to the athletic experience.
I have been a fitness professional for over a decade, and have also competed at a high level of athletics -Olympic trials for boxing, Colorado Springs 2012. I started working with Michael Holland 4 months ago, and a whole new world of awareness was opened to me. Michael has taught me how to access more from myself; physically, mentally and spiritually; to become the best “Me” I have ever been. Not only would I suggest Michael to individuals of all levels of fitness, from those recovering from surgery/injuries all the way to top tier athletes, I would even send my mother to train with him….And I have!
We started working with Michael when Derek was 10 and speed was an issue for his performance in sports. His technique was wrong and he needed to relearn how to run correctly. Derek now matches the speed of some of the fasted kids in his sport. In addition his mental focus is far better and all with an attitude of focus, fun, and I can do this.
Michael has helped me with not only speed and agility but also with discipline. I recommend him for any athlete who wants to succeed.
